Ashley School - Kapa Haka 2017

The Ashley School kapa haka group this year has just over 80 students ranging from Year 1 to Year 8.

Once again we have Matua Maaka Tau as our tutor, and he has Matua Norm and Whaea Michelle working closely alongside him, to provide excellence. He has the ability to get the absolute best from our students through his positive attitude and through the rigour which he applies to every Monday morning session, which in Terms 1 and 2 will be between 9.30 am and 10.30am.

We are delighted to have whanau come along and attend the weekly kapa haka sessions in the hall, where you can join in and learn the waiata which the children are doing. Come along when you are able.

This year, our group has again been accepted as one of the 70 schools to participate in the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival which is held annually in the city during August. This will be year 35 for the festival which celebrates a range of cultures, and Ashley School is proud to be a part of it. We have elected to perform in one of the evening shows at Horncastle Arena and will have plenty of information about this as the time approaches.

If you have questions about any aspects of the kapa haka programme, perhaps you might find the answer on our kapa haka blog at http://2015kapahaka.edublogs.org/ or alternatively feel free to ask one of the staff, or as mentioned above, come along to a session or two.
