Ashley School - Kapa Haka 2018

We began the school year with members of the 2017 kapa haka group welcoming our new staff, students and their whanau, with a powhiri. This was followed with the whole school getting together in the hall with all staff as well as some parents, to go through several waiata. It was nice to have Matua Maaka with us on the first day of the 2018 year.

Once again we have Matua Maaka Tau as our tutor, and he has Matua Norm and Whaea Michelle working closely alongside him, to provide excellence. As we have seen in the past two years at the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival, Maaka has the ability to get the absolute best from our students through his positive attitude and through the rigour which he applies to every Monday morning session.

The theme for the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival is ' Whiria te tangata' - ‘Weaving people together’ and it is to be held on 3 September - 7 September 2018 at the Horncastle Arena. In Term 3 we will find out which night our group will perform in one of the evening shows at Horncastle Arena and we will have plenty of information about this as the time approaches.

If you have questions about any aspects of the kapa haka programme, perhaps you might find the answer on our kapa haka blog at http://2015kapahaka.edublogs.org/2018-2/ or alternatively feel free to ask one of the staff, or as mentioned above, come along to a session or two.
